Midcoast Ice Cats prevail over Windjammer jayvees in ice action
Rockport — The Midcoast Ice Cats and Camden Hills junior varsity Windjammers squared off on the ice Thursday, Jan 16 at the Midcoast Recreation Center, as both high school squads looked to pick up the win in another rivalry game between the teams.
The Windjammers scored first, but the Ice Cats scored often and tallied six unanswered goals en route to a 6-1 victory.
Camden Hills took a 1-0 lead with 2:23 remaining in the first period on an unassisted score by Nick Tassoni, but the Ice Cats scored three times in the second period and three more in the third to pull away.
Leading the Ice Cats were Nate Lord (2 goals), Sam Kulikowski (goal, 3 assists), Breac Baker (3 assists), Bailey McCaffery (goal), Nathan Hersom (goal, assist), Ken Scheimreif (2 assists) and Preston Spear (goal, assist).
Henry Laurita minded the net for the Ice Cats and Zach Hand for the Windjammers. Laurita also is a Camden Hills student.
The Ice Cats, a cooperative high school club team that draws student-athletes from Medomak Valley of Waldoboro, Oceanside of Rockland/Thomaston, Belfast, Morse of Bath, Mount View of Thorndike, Camden Hills, Nokomis of Newport and homeschooled/private schools, committed no penalties, while Camden Hills was whistled for two penalties for three minutes.
The Ice Cats also prevailed over the Windjammers 3-2 in a Dec. 7 game at MRC.
