Midcoast fitness fanatics indulge in Oceanside biathlonProceeds go to Mariner lacrosse program, Hurricane Sandy relief
Thomaston — The Oceanside High School girls lacrosse team hosted a fundraising biathlon Saturday morning, Dec. 8, an event which showcased both the format of a road race coupled with the excitement of Crossfit.
Jason and Teel Foster of Crossfit Crossover coached the 15 competitors that took part in the biathlon, an event that saw 25 percent of the proceeds go to benefit Red Cross for Hurricane Sandy disaster relief. The other proceeds went to the Oceanside lacrosse program.
The biathlon consisted of a 2.5 mile (4-kilometer) run through Thomaston back to the gymnasium at Oceanside West, where competitors then took part in walking lunges, a succession of burpee and tuck jumps, 25 squats, 50 situps, 75 mountain climbers and 100 jumping jacks.
The individual finishers and their times were: 1, John Ferguson, Tenants Harbor, 32:41; 2, Ron Haney, Warren, 32:49; 3, Allison Leonard, Rockland, 37:30; 4, Amanda Hoppe, Rockland, 38:28; 5, Karly Robinson, Rockland, 41:22; 6, Catherine Sally, Thomaston, 42:29; 7, Susan MacMillian, St. George, 44:22; 8, Christine Jones, Thomaston, 45:14; 9, Sydney Brooks, Thomaston, 45:26; and 10, Courtney Simmons, Port Clyde, 48:33.
Relay team finishers included: 1, Rick Bagnall and Chris Roman, Rockland, 33:10; 2, Katie Johnson and Theresa Withee, Rockland, 33:47; and 3, Kevin Barrett, St. George and Roman, Rockland, 40:07.
