Mid-Coast Breast Cancer Classic a hit at RGC
Rockland — In a popular event that raises money for treatment and awareness for a serious illness, the Mid-Coast Breast Cancer Classic golf tournament teed off Friday, Aug. 15 at the Rockland Golf Club.
In the women's division, the team of Helen Plourd, Marie Cates, Jean Sweetser and Shirley Kile finished first gross 63; Julie Raye, Kim Felt, Nikki Boutin and Lynn Williams, second gross 71; and Kathy Spowl, Sue Wootton, Martha Jones and Jean Brown, third gross 72.
In the men's division, Jack Novia, Paul Spizzuoco, Rick Franklin and Victor Goldsmith finished first gross 62; Tim Grasse, Jason White, Stefan Wriggley, second gross 64; and Dave Andrus, Mitch Perry, Len Goeke and Tom Cyr, third gross 64 (second and third were determined with a match of scorecards).
In the mixed doubles division, Bob Sommers, Diana Sommers, Tim Flanagan and Carol Burnham finished first gross 69; Jane Dagley, Sandy Ellsworth, John Bragg and Kate McAleer, second gross 67; and Julie Landwehr, Brenda Berry, Adam Landwehr and Kyle Olehnik, third gross 69.
The women's pin winners were: Julie Landwehr, 4 feet 11 inches on the fifth hole; and Jean Sweetser, 10-7 on the 18th
The men's pin winners were: Jorgen Heidemann, 6-3.5 on the fifth; and Tim Grasse, 13-10 on the 18th.
The longest drives on the 15th hole came from Jean Sweetser (women) and Stefan Wriggley (men).
Pink flamingos were earned by Garrett Hilchey on the 12th hole, Carol Mather on the 13th and Judy Collins on the 16th.
