Rockport — Seth Meyer takes great pride and joy in teaching people how to play tennis and his passion of providing fun, competitive events for athletes of all ages has led to the Maine Tennis Association recognizing him as the Tournament Director of the Year.

Meyer is director of tennis at the Midcoast Recreation Center in Rockport.

Meyer will be honored at the Maine Tennis Association's annual meeting and awards ceremony on Saturday, Jan. 26 at The Racket & Fitness Center in Portland.

The night's events begin with the MTA's annual meeting from 6 to 6:30 p.m., followed by refreshments from 6:30 to 7 p.m. The night will conclude with the awards presentation from 7 to 9 p.m.

Meyer, who has been tennis director at MRC for 7 1/2 years, said he is honored and thankful for the recognition.

He was an instructor at the Tualatin Hills Park and Recreation District before moving to Maine in 2005 to become the director of tennis at MRC.

Meyer also has continued to be successful as a player, combining with Shashanna Moll of Belfast in mixed doubles to finish 6-1 this year and captured the MTA year-end event

Meyer also has had a hand in helping MRC athletes achieve high MTA rankings, including Isaac Salas, No. 1 for boys age 16; Cameron Butler, No. 4 for boys age 16; Moll, No. 6 for girls age 18 and No. 5 for adult women; and Emma Blakeley, No. 8 for girls age 18.

Meyer said his most significant accomplishment at MRC is the growth of the tennis program, and the junior program in particular.

He said his goal as tennis director at MRC is to offer a comprehensive tennis program for juniors and adults and to serve the community in every way possible.
