Rockland — Kendall Merriam, Rockland’s inaugural poet laureate, is the subject of a documentary short by Kristen Moe, a fall graduate of Portland’s Salt Institute for Documentary Studies. Her film, “The Traveling Troubadour of Rockland, Maine,” is part of the Salt Series and may be viewed online.

The short, comprised of film segments and still photos, follows Merriam on his weekly Poetry Route around the city, during which he distributes, and sometimes reads, his work. Locations include the Eric Hopkins Gallery, Rockland Café, Huston-Tuttle and the Rockland Antiques Market. Several local people are interviewed including Jane Karker of Maine Authors Publishing, which produced Merriam’s latest book of poems, “The Light Relaxes into Evening.”
