Medomak Youth Football in midst of three-day campHigh school-aged team to compete against Class D East squads in fall
Union — Are you ready for some football?
Medomak Youth Football, which encompasses student-athletes from kindergarten through 12th grade in Regional School Unit 40, is in the midst of a hot-and-humid, three-day summer camp at the D.R. Gaul/Union Elementary School field.
The camp began Wednesday, July 23 and will conclude Friday, July 25. Roughly 90 students were in attendance at the first day of camp.
The first two days of the camp will include skills and drills, while the final day will consist of “Panther Ball,” namely 5-on-5 or 7-on-7 scrimmages and will end with a barbecue for participants.
Medomak Youth Football president Naomi Miller said “The camp is an opportunity for the kids to be taught fundamentals of the game and have fun.”
The camp is sponsored by The First.
The high school-aged team was approved for club status at Medomak Valley High School in January and will play a varsity schedule against teams in Class D's Little Ten Conference in the fall. As a club team, the Panthers will not be eligible to qualify for postseason play.
Class D East is comprised of Bucksport, Dexter, Ellsworth, Houlton, John Bapst of Bangor, Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln, Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield, Mount View of Thorndike, Orono, Stearns of Millinocket and Washington Academy of East Machias.
