Medomak Valley to host April 19 play day
Waldoboro — The Medomak Valley softball team is set to host six other high school squads in a preseason play day tournament Saturday, April 19 in Waldoboro.
The Panthers will host the defending state Class B champion and neighboring rival Oceanside Mariners, along with Messalonskee of Oakland, Lincoln Academy of Newcastle, Bucksport, Erskine Academy of South China and Hermon.
The play day will take place on both the Medomak Valley High School and Medomak Middle School softball fields.
However, the caveat for the play day is that the Panthers, which will have several varsity players on a school-sponsored trip to Costa Rica, will not participate, thus giving the other six schools the spotlight for the day.
Where pitching is paramount for a team playing three games in one day, athletic director Matt Lash and varsity coach Richard Vannah collaborated on the decision to not participate in the play day.
Several Panther players, both jayvee and varsity, will be on hand volunteering at the event.
The following is a breakdown of the play day schedule:
Medomak Valley High School field — Oceanside versus Bucksport, 8:30 a.m.; Oceanside versus Hermon, 10:10 a.m.; Bucksport versus Erskine Academy, 1:30 p.m.; and Bucksport versus Lincoln Academy, 3:10 p.m.
Medomak Middle School — Messalonskee versus Erskine Academy, 8:30 a.m.; Lincoln Academy versus Messalonskee, 10:10 a.m.; Lincoln Academy versus Hermon, 11:50 a.m.; Oceanside versus Messalonskee, 1:30 p.m.; and Erskine Academy versus Hermon, 3:10 p.m.
Oceanside, Bucksport, Erskine Academy and Messalonskee will break for lunch at 11:50 a.m., while Lincoln Academy and Hermon will do the same at 1:30 p.m.
