Medomak Valley swings for steady improvement

By Staff | Sep 03, 2014

Waldoboro — The following is a synopsis of the 2014 Medomak Valley High School golf team:

Coach/years coached current team: Peter Stuart, 13th year.

Last year's record/playoff information: 1-11 during the regular season.

Roster: Seniors Aaron Smeltzer, Tyler Emerson and J.P. Lobley; junior Adam Wilcox; sophomores Channing Soper and Cam Allaire; and freshmen Brent Stewart, Duncan Morrell, Owen Jameson, Josh Goldrup and Ben Dever.

Known graduation losses: None.

Significant impact golfers: Wilcox, Smeltzer and Allaire.

Team strengths: Youth and enthusiasm.

Team goal: To steadily improve throughout the season.

Top league opponents: Camden Hills of Rockport and Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield.

Outlook: The Panthers, while admittedly “a bit green,” said coach Stuart, have a desire to learn the game and improve, which is what the veteran coach hopes his group can do by season's end.

“In the weeks I've had them so far, they've done everything I've asked them to do,” said Stuart. “They've worked on their games, I've given them a few things to work on and they're going to see their scores go down if they continue to do that. We want to have them improve their scores throughout the season and have them ready for any postseason play if we can get there.”
