Medomak Valley seeks consistent, learning campaign

By Staff | Apr 14, 2013

Waldoboro — The following is a synopsis of the 2013 Medomak Valley High School girls tennis team:

Coach/years coached current team: Marcia Robbins, 11th year.

Last year's record/playoff information: 2-10, 15th in Eastern Class B. The Panthers did not qualify for the playoffs.

Roster: Seniors Isabelle Lobley (first singles), Bailey Black (second singles), Danica Dever (third singles, first doubles) and Angela Gray (exhibition); Elly Baubonis (first doubles, second doubles), Haley Mank (first or second doubles) and Aom Nuamsantia (third singles, first doubles); sophomore Taylor Griffin (second doubles, exhibition); and freshman Hui Kennedy (second doubles).

Outlook: The Panthers lost two of their top players to graduation and had a few more experienced players not return this spring, so this year likely will come with growing pains for Medomak Valley.

Lobley will make the jump from third to first singles and "has been practicing all winter so hopefully she will manage to win a few matches," said Robbins.

The veteran coach hopes the Panthers can hold their own against foes such as Winslow, Gardiner, Morse of Bath and Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield this season, but "will have no chance against Waterville or Camden [Hills]," heralded by many as the top two teams in the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class B ranks.

"I am not expecting too much out of this group as far as winning matches but hoping they will improve with each match they play," said Robbins. "They have a lot of spirit and the willingness to learn, which is good."
