Medomak Valley 'run for fun' returns for hot summer jaunts
Waldoboro — The Medomak Valley "Summer Run For Fun" program has returned for its weekly events.
A weekly cross-county challenge at Medomak Valley High School will be held for all ages. Participants gather for weekly runs. The top five weekly finishers in each division will earn points toward a season total. Awards will be presented to the top-five finishers in each age group (scoring 5,4,3,2,1) based on season results.
The runs will be Wednesdays at 6 p.m. from June 25 through Aug. 20 on the Medomak Valley Nature Trail. The course has quickly become one of the state's best as it weaves in and out of the forested area behind Medomak Middle School and MVHS.
"Come see this great facility and enjoy a summer of running," said program organizer George Gould. "Walkers are also encouraged to participate free of charge to experience the beauty of the course and enjoy some camaraderie."
For runners, the registration fee is $15 or $30 for families.
"Whether a seasoned runner or a beginner this program is for you," said Gould.
Registration is on the Medomak Valley track on “run for fun” nights.
The age groups and distances include: Sub-Bantam (ages 8 and younger), 1.037 miles; Bantam (ages 9-10), 1.037 miles; Midget (11-12) 2.016 miles; Youth (13-14), 2.995 miles; Intermediate (15-16), 2.995 miles; Young men and women (17-18), 2.995 miles; post high school men and women (19-20), 2.995 miles; and adults 21 and older (in 5-year age groups), 2.995 miles.
