Medomak Valley competes in Atlantic InvitationalPanther senior Miller records 100th career mat victory
Wells — The Medomak Valley wrestling team participated in the annual Atlantic Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 21, while another Midcoast team, Camden Hills, chose not to attend the prestigious, historic tournament due to inclement weather and poor road conditions.
Panther senior Cyril Miller certainly was glad Medomak Valley opted to attend the meet because it gave him an opportunity to record his 100th career mat victory. Miller placed second at 182 pounds.
The team scores were: Marshwood of Eliot 203, Mountain Valley of Rumford 116.5, Wells 103, York 89, Fryeburg Academy 84.5, Biddeford 74, Dirigo of Dixfield 73, Lisbon of Lisbon Falls 55, Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield 40, Medomak Valley 39.5, Kennebunk 34 and Oak Hill of Sabattus 33.
The individual Medomak Valley results, with Panthers listed first, were:
113 pounds — Rayanne Leach (6-4 season record, with a pin) was pinned by Darren LaPointe, Marsh, at 1:55; and was pinned by Brandon Avery, Bidd, at 2:15.
120 pounds — Deagen Poland (5-5, 2 pins) was pinned by J.D. Martin, Lis, at 0:26; and was pinned by Isaac Desrochers, Wells, at 2:33.
126 pounds — Cole Ashmore (5-5, 5 pins) was pinned by Will Livermore, Bidd, at 5:27; and was pinned by Colin Woodhead, Dir, at 1:55.
132 pounds — Gage Modery (3-3, 2 pins) pinned Jess York, York, at 3:53; was pinned by Jake Gange, Bidd, at 0:44; and was pinned by Connor Smith, FA, 0:27.
138 pounds — Riley McCollett (6-5, 4 pins) pinned Courtney Bachelder, FA, at 0:34; was pinned by Colin Sevigney, Wells, at 1:51; and lost to Dakota Jacques, MountVal, 12-2.
145 pounds — Tim Jerome (2-5) was pinned by Josh Smith, York, at 0:43; and was pinned by Corey Day, Bidd, at 2:12.
152 pounds — Quinn Ashmore (4-7, 4 pins) was pinned by Griffin Broughton, Kenn, at 5:57; pinned Owen Foye, Marsh, at 2:00; and pinned Chad Merrill, OaH, at 2:04 in the consolation final. Quinn finished third.
160 pounds — Morgan Black (1-4) was pinned by Andrew Burns, Kenn, at 0:11; and lost by technical fall to Hunter Day, FA, 15-0.
170 pounds — Samantha Fowles (2-2) was pinned by John Harper, OaH, at 0:59 in a pigtail match.
182 pounds — Miller (10-1, 9 pins) pinned Jason Baldinelli, Dir, at 0:50; beat Trevor Henschel, FA, 4-3 for his 100th career victory; and lost to Brett Gerry, Marsh, 11-2 in the championship final. Miller finished second.
220 pounds — Owen Gilbert (8-4, 7 pins) pinned Matt Tennant, York, at 1:26; was pinned by Julian Baldinelli, Dir, at 0:47; won by technical fall over Seth Wilcox, MCI, 19-4; and was pinned by Chuck Taylor, Wells, at 3:51 in the consolation final. Owen finished fourth.
