Medomak to host Gettysburg Address recitation contest
Waldoboro — A 150th anniversary recitation contest of the Gettysburg Address will be held Saturday, Nov. 16, at 5 p.m. in the Ronald E. Dolloff Auditorium, located at Medomak Valley High School.
This contest is open to all Regional School Unit 40 students in any grade.
Cash prizes of $125, $90, and $75 will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners in each age group: K-3, 4-6, 7-8, 9-12.
The Francis G. Cross Scholarship Fund sponsors the contest and immediately before the contest his family will dedicate the Francis G. Cross Heritage Center in the auditorium.
Donations to the scholarship fund would be appreciated. The Heritage Center and Living History Arboretum is located at the corner of Manktown and Miller Roads in Waldoboro and features 33 historic trees, including one grown from seeds taken from the honey locust tree that witnessed Lincoln's original speech Nov. 19, 1863.
