Meals on Wheels for Pets Receives Grant from Banfield Charitable Trust
The Banfield Charitable Trust (BCT) has awarded $3,700.00 to Spectrum Generations Cohen Center in Hallowell, Muskie Center in Waterville and the Southern Midcoast Center in Topsham for its AniMeals program, an extension of its Meals on Wheels program for pets. This grant will be used to buy pet food or cover direct expenses for pet food distribution efforts.
“With this grant and support from area businesses such as Hometown Veterinarians of Fairfield, Shaw’s Supermarket of Waterville and Pine Tree Veterinary of Augusta, homebound seniors receiving AniMeals are less likely to lose their pet due to the rising cost of food. More than 125 beloved pets across Central Maine will benefit from this much needed program.” said Lynda Johnson, Spectrum Generations Cohen Center Nutrition Coordinator.
Banfield Charitable Trust awards grants to Meals on Wheels Association of America (MOWAA) programs to fund or sustain pet food distribution programs across the country. To date, BCT has awarded more than $350,000 dollars in grant funding to support MOWAA pet food programs.
Funding comes from the BCT’s annual Season of Suppers campaign which runs from Nov. 1 to Dec. 31 each year. Season of Suppers serves as the major source of funds and food for the pet food programs across the country. Working in partnership with Meals on Wheels Association of America (MOWAA) each year, Banfield hospitals across the nation collect food for the pets of homebound seniors who also receive meals through MOWAA.
