Keene, N.H. — Oceanside High School's Nick Mazurek and Searsport District High School's Rica Warren participated in the New England High School golf championships on Monday, June 23 at Bretwood Golf Course, with both student-athletes leaving it all on the links.
In the boys tournament, Mazurek shot a 77 for 18 holes and tied for 18th.
Evan Grenus of Glastonbury, Conn. shot 69 to win the tournament, while Luke Ruffing of Maranacook was the top Maine finisher as he shot a 70 and finished tied for second.
Mazurek finished second among the nine Maine participants, including Cheverus' Chris Billings (79), Fort Fairfield's Robbie Watson (81), Winthrop's Adam Hachey (86), Oxford Hills' Cam Letourneau (87), Lincoln Academy's Seward Matel (87), Wiscasset's Chandler Longfellow (97) and Brunswick's Derek Devereaux (no score).
In the girls tournament, Warren shot 109 and tied for 46th on the day.
Catherine French of Dudley, Mass. shot 72 to win the tournament, while Monica Austin of Yarmouth was the top Maine finisher as she shot 76 and placed third.
Warren finished tied for sixth among eight Maine participants, including Oxford Hills' Brianna Morris (83), Cape Elizabeth's Lauren Schonewolf (85), Lincoln Academy's Bailey Plourde (92), Yarmouth's Grace King (104), Noble's Kailey Coleman (109) and Erskine Academy's Ashley Chubbuck (no score).
