Mazurek receives perfect score on environmental record
Democratic Sen. Ed Mazurek of Rockland has received a 100 percent rating from the Maine Conservation Voters for his support of environmental issues during the 126th Legislature.
“I believe strongly in protecting the best aspects of coastal Maine; our local economy is an integral part of our forests and magnificent coastline,” said Mazurek in a news release. “I am pleased with the work we accomplished last session to preserve our environment.”
Mazurek is one of 13 Democratic senators to receive a perfect score.
During the 2014 legislative session, Mazurek cosponsored a bill to create the first commission on the East Coast to study the effects of ocean acidification on the ecosystem, and voted for a bond package that includes funding for investment in natural infrastructure and restoration of drinking water aquifers.
Mazurek also supported bills to increase access to solar energy, and allow small Maine farms to compete through the creation of food hubs in order to provide fresh food to schools and other institutions.
Mazurek is serving his first and final term in the Maine Senate after announcing his retirement earlier this year. His district includes all of Knox County except for the towns of Friendship and Washington.
