Mary Armstrong Cady
Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. — Mary Armstrong Cady died peacefully March 12, 2014, at Vicars Landing retirement community, Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. She was 101 years old.
Mary was born in Winchester, Mass. and lived there many years while spending almost all summers of her life in Friendship, where her grandparents bought property around 1900. She graduated from Winchester High School and was in the class of 1934 at Skidmore College. Mary worked as a bank auditor for 10 years at an accounting firm in Massachusetts. She did many years of community service in Winchester. Her husband, Ken, was a naval career man whose tours of duty brought the family to London, England and Naples, Italy in the early 1950s. He also worked for the Civil Service in Massachusetts and Maine before retiring. After raising their family in Winchester, they spent winters in Marblehead, Mass. and summers on Davis Point in Friendship. They later moved to Vicars Landing in Florida for winters. She was a longtime member of Friendship Methodist Church and Davis Point Improvement Association.
Mary enjoyed sailing, tennis, bridge playing, reading and many forms of hand work, traveling with friends and she loved a good party.
She is survived by her son Sam of Friendship; daughters Priscilla of North Yarmouth, Phoebe of Peabody, Mass.; her brother John Armstrong; granddaughters Fonda Hereford, Edie Ambrose, Rachel Ambrose and David Ambrose; great-grandchildren, Sally Hereford, Emily Hereford, Thomas Hereford, Talia Katz Ambrose and Sivan Katz Ambrose. She was predeceased by her son Thomas Wilder and husband Kenneth Cady.
