Thomaston — Marion Wallace Sadler, 98, a longtime resident of Thomaston, passed away Tuesday, April 23, 2014, at Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport after a brief illness.

Born in Rockland Oct. 28, 1915, to parents Burton Wallace and Bea Rawley Smith. Marion was their only child. After her father drowned in a storm while delivering mail from Owls Head to Matinicus Island she was then raised by her grandparents Charles and Laura Rawley. They owned the Wan-E-Set Inn, now known as the East Wind Inn in Tenants Harbor. Marion spent her youth helping "Grammy" at the inn.

Marion graduated from Hallowell High School in 1934 with highest honors and then worked many years as a beautician at Flo’s Beauty Shop in Rockland,  where she met her lifelong best friend Norma Staples. She met Robert E. Sadler in 1940 and when he returned from his duty in World War II, in 1945 they were married. They would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary the year that Bob had passed away.

Marion was a long-time member of the Thomaston Baptist Church, a volunteer at the Owls Head Transportation Museum, a member of the Rebekahs. She so enjoyed traveling, playing cards, painting, dancing and most recently danced to the music of her favorite band, The Frye Mountain Band, In Union.

Marion has no surviving family just many great friends who will miss her dearly. Many thanks go to her caregivers — Pat, Karen, and Paula. Along with her special friends — Nancy, Gena, Phyliss, Lisa, AJ, Marie and her cat Annie who brought many hours of companionship to her.

A graveside service will be held at the Achorn Cemetery in Rockland Wednesday, May 21, at 1 p.m. with Pastor Wayne Sawyer officiating.
