CUSHING — Marion E. Grover, 88, died peacefully Sunday, July 22, 2012, at Knox Center for Long Term Care in Rockland.
Born in Warren on Feb. 18, 1924, she was the daughter of Elmer and Rachel Libby Overlock. Educated locally she was a 1942 graduate of Thomaston High School.
Following high school, Marion married Charles E. Grover on Nov. 25, 1942, in Warren.
Mrs. Grover dedicated her life to taking care of her family. When her children were young she served as a Girl Scout leader. For more than 50 years she was a member of "The Club," a group of women and stay-at-home mothers that met once a week to sew, knit and converse, often hosting dinners.
Her daughters remember her as an accomplished crafter, creating many beautiful quilts and knitting projects. She also enjoyed cooking, often selling her doughnuts and breads on the side of the road. Her business grew, and she began taking and filling phone orders. In her younger years she worked at Holmes Poultry Farm in Cushing where she packed eggs.
Mrs. Grover also enjoyed camping and going to local fairs, taking her grandchildren along whenever she was able.
More recently, Mrs. Grover wintered in Kissimmee, Fla., with her husband.
Predeceased by her husband, Charles Grover; a brother Leland Overlock; a sister Charlotte Stambaugh; a grandson Derek Benner; and a granddaughter, Randi Baxter; Mrs. Grover is survived by her son, Alton G. Grover and his wife, Nancy, of Cushing; her daughters, Charlene Benner, Lucy Stackpole and her husband, Robert all of Cushing; a brother, Neil Overlock and his wife, Sandra, of Warren; her sister, Estelle Ames of Cushing; eight grandchildren, Michelle Benner and her companion Tom Ingerson, Michael Benner and his wife, Jennifer, all of Cushing, Jason Benner and his wife, Vikki, of Appleton, Benjamin Stackpole, Scott Stackpole and his wife, Cheryl, Jared Stackpole and his companion Meagan Rackliff, Charles Grover and his wife, Tara, all of Cushing, and Sherry Brackett and her husband, Mark, of Owls Head; great-grandchildren, Tyler Ingerson, Lily Stackpole, Abby Stackpole, Emma Stackpole, Leland Stackpole, Payson Stackpole, Kennadi Grover, Kalyn Grover, Kalli Grover, Casey Benner, Hannah Benner, Madison Benner, Landyn Benner, Vanessa Benner, Jeanette Baxter, Jacob Brackett and Jordan Brackett.
A graveside celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 25 at Village Cemetery, Erin Street, Thomaston. The Rev. Wayne Sawyer will officiate.
