The Oceanside field hockey team was in action on Tuesday, Oct. 8 looking to improve its playoff position late in the season and the Mariners did that with a 3-1 home victory over Waterville.

At Rockland Oct. 8, the Mariners sailed to victory over the Purple Panthers.
Brooke Dugan had two goals and one assist to lead the hosts, while Becka Freeman added a goal and Mary Allen one assist. For Waterville, Gabby Bridger scored, on an assist from Olivia Lopes.
Zoe Billington made two saves on three shots in the cage for Oceanside, while Waterville's goalie, whose name was unavailable, made nine saves on 12 shots. The Purple Panthers led 13-10 in penalty corners.
Oceanside coach Joanna Hall said Dugan had “a super game … She is our special ops girl and was assigned to cover Waterville’s Jena Nawful, who is a very talented player. Brooke not only shut her down, but also found time to score two goals and assist on a third goal. She had quite a game.”
In the Maine Principals' Association Heal Point Standings for Eastern Class B, Oceanside (9-3, 59.3878 points) is fourth, while Nokomis of Newport (12-0, 112.9592 points) is first in the 11-team region. The top eight teams qualify for the playoffs.
