Mariners go on offensive, rack up two preseason wins

Bath — While the Oceanside girls lacrosse team has yet to play an official regular-season match, the Mariners already have a few preseason wins under their collective belt after taking part in the Sagadahoc Invitational Play Day Saturday, April 12 on McMann Field.

The Mariners, who are about to embark on their first varsity campaign, bested Edward Little of Auburn 9-4 and also picked up a 9-4 win over Mountain Valley of Rumford.

“The team continues to work hard on defense and taking care of the ball, with accurate passing, catching as well as winning many ground balls,” said Mariner coach Angie Vachon. “Our newer girls had the opportunity to try a few different field positions through the two games and each one stepped up to the plate in their respective duties.”

In Oceanside's game against the Red Eddies, leading the offensive charge were Lily Vachon (4 goals), Abbey Lacasse (2 goals, assist), Alexis Pine (goal, assist), Olivia Hupper (goal, assist), Kelsey Brooks (goal), Rebekah Freeman (assist) and Danielle Ladd (assist).

In their game against the Falcons, leading the offensive charge for the Mariners were Vachon (3 goals, assist), Pine (2 goals, 2 assists), Freeman (2 goals), Hupper (goal, assist), Kim Young (goal), Brooks (2 assists) and Sierra Beal (assist).
