Mariners ease past Lions, remain in strong playoff hunt

Brooks, Dugan, solid free-throw shooting lead charge for Oceanside

Belfast — Contributions by many players helped the Oceanside girls basketball team notch a solid 52-31 victory over host Belfast on Monday, Jan. 20.

Makenna Brooks scored 15 points for Oceanside, while Brooke Dugan added 10; Lily Vachon, seven; Emily Gould and Payton Billingsley, six; Kalyn Grover, three; Brianna Dugan and Trittany Penn, two; and Alexis Davis, one.

Kelci Faulkingham scored nine points for Belfast, while Ashley Littlefield added eight; Mariah Sturgis and Breann Cummings, five; and Rainey Knowlton and Maddy Littlefield, two.

The Mariners were 23-of-32 (72 percent) from the foul line, while the Lions were 2-of-11 (18 percent).

In the Maine Principals' Association Heal Point Standings for Eastern Class B, Oceanside (6-6, 45.0617 points) is seventh, while Presque Isle (14-0, 85.9568 points) is first in the 19-team region. The top 13 teams qualify for the playoffs.
