Mariner student-athletes earn all-conference honors

Oceanside has plenty of soccer, field hockey, football, golf, cross-country honorees

Rockland — The Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class B all-conference and all-academic selections have produced positive results for many Oceanside High School student-athletes and one Mariner coach.

Oceanside student-athletes who participated in girls soccer, boys soccer, field hockey, cross country and golf this fall have been honored by the KVAC with different awards, including golf coach Keenan Flanagan, the league's Class A Central Division coach of the year.

A handful of Oceanside football players also were honored in the Pine Tree Conference Class B ranks.

The following is a recap of honored Mariner student-athletes:

Girls soccer — Rachel Frye and Emma Spencer, KVAC first-team all-conference; Kennadi Grover, KVAC second-team all-conference; and Frye and Katherine Waters, KVAC all-academic.

Boys soccer — Lars Feurlien, KVAC first-team all-conference; Drew Townsend, KVAC second-team all-conference; and Danessa MacDonald (manager), KVAC all-academic.

Field hockey — Hannah Plourde, KVAC first-team all-conference; Emma Davis and Jackie Thorbjornson, KVAC second-team all-conference; and Phoebe Ferraiolo, Davis, Casey Carroll, Plourde and Danielle Bedard, KVAC all-academic.

Cross country — Abby Hersom, KVAC first-team all-conference; and Riley Simmons, KVAC second-team all-conference.

Football — Garrett Burns and Jacob Butman, PTC second-team offense; and Dan Hendricks and Sam Meklin, second-team defense.

Golf — Nick Mazurek, KVAC first-team all-conference; Bethany Schulberg and Luke Rector, KVAC all-academic; and Flanagan, KVAC Class A Central Division coach of the year.
