Mariner squads, Panther boys prevail in Dec. 12 court cases

Medomak Valley girls fall to 1-2

The Oceanside basketball teams, along with the Medomak Valley boys, picked up Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class B high school court victories on Thursday night, Dec. 12.

Both Mariner squads bested Winslow, with the boys earning an 83-76 win on the road and the girls a 57-50 victory at home.

Additionally, the Panther boys outlasted visiting Gardiner 63-62 in overtime, while the Panthers girls lost 62-24 to the Tigers in Gardiner.

The following is a recap of all four contests:

Boys basketball

Oceanside 83, Winslow 76

At Winslow Dec. 11, the Mariners bested the host Black Raiders in a back-and-forth affair. Oceanside led 23-19 after the first quarter, while Winslow battled back to take a 34-33 lead at halftime. The Mariners then sailed to a 58-51 advantage after three quarters.

Isaiah Stone-Patterson poured in 24 points to lead the visitors, while David Gould added 17; Nick Judge, 13; Nick Mazurek, 10; Keenan Hendricks, nine; Hunter Grindle, six; and Eli Thorbjornson, three.

For Winslow, Justin Martin scored 27 points, while Trevor Lovely added 23; Dakota Herman, 13; Josh Kervin, five; Connor Wildes, four; and Justin Kervin and Colby Robertson, both two.

Medomak Valley 63, Gardiner 62 (OT)

At Waldoboro Dec. 11, the Panthers rallied to tie the game at the end of regulation and outlasted the Tigers in overtime. Gardiner led 14-10 and 25-18 at the end of the first two breaks, while Medomak Valley rallied to take a 43-40 edge after three quarters and tied the game 56-56 at the end of regulation.

Nicholas DePatsy pumped in 19 points for the Panthers, while Micah Williamson added 16; Colton Spear, 11; Zach Little, eight; Zach Starr, six; Noah Beck, two; and Hunter Baughman, one.

For Gardiner, Seth McFarland scored 18 points, while Alex LaPointe added 16; Joe Harnett, 10; Josh McKelvey, six; Bradley Weston, five; Logan Hallett, four; and Kevin Frankhauser, three.

Williamson netted a free throw with six seconds left in regulation to tie the game and send the contest to overtime, while DePatsy canned a key trey and Spear a bucket late to help the Panthers stay unbeaten. DePatsy and Little also grabbed 10 rebounds, while Williamson added six assists.

Girls basketball

Oceanside 57, Winslow 50

At Rockland Dec. 11, the Mariners pulled away from the Black Raiders in the fourth quarter to pick up their second win in three games. Winslow led 14-13 after the first quarter, while Oceanside led 24-18 at halftime and 37-36 after three quarters.

Makenna Brooks netted 17 points to lead Oceanside, while Emily Gould added 16; Kalyn Grover, eight; Brooke Dugan, five; Payton Billingsley and Brianna Dugan, both four; Lily Vachon, two; and Ashley Gardner, one.

For Winslow, Heather Kervin tossed in 12 points, while Hannah Doble and Elizabeth Pullen each added 10; Devin Fitzgibbons, eight; Alyssa Wood and Delaney Wood, both four; and Sarah Wildes, two.

Gardiner 62, Medomak Valley 24

At Gardiner Dec. 11, the Tigers went on a 19-3 run in the third quarter and roared to victory over the visiting Panthers. Gardiner led 11-8, 33-14 and 52-17 at the quarter breaks.

Hannah Marks scored seven points for Medomak Valley, while Justice Barrows and Sophie Cohen each added six and Sami Griffin five.

For Gardiner, Ally Day scored 14 points, while Lauren Chadwick added 13; Morgan Carver, 11; Abby Dunn, seven; Kate Boyington and Rachel Quirion, both four; Haley Tomberlin, three; and Camden Cone, Emalee Couture and Mary Toman, all two.
