Marcia E. Soule
Union — Marcia Ethelyn (Willey) Soule, 78, passed away April 8, 2017, with her family at her side. She had been fighting kidney disease for many years. Marcia was the fourth child of Irving William Willey and Ethelyn Louise (Ginn) Willey, and was born Feb. 23, 1939, in Southwest Harbor.
Marcia was married to Peter B. Soule July 2, 1960; they were together for 32 years. They had two children, Katherine Louise and Kevin Peter Soule. They resided in Union.
Marcia graduated from Cape Elizabeth High School, Pierce Secretarial School, Boston; Northeast Business School, Portland; and the Midcoast School of Technology, Rockland.
She had been employed by the marine law firm of Thompson & Thompson, Waldoboro Savings & Loan, the town of Union as tax collector and town clerk for 21 years, Fuller Equipment, Camden Health Care Center as a CNA, and the town of Warren as town clerk.
Marcia belonged to many clubs and groups over the years, such as Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Union Extension, Women's Community Club, Union Chamber of Commerce, Maine Tax Collector/Treasurers Assn., Shrine Ladies Club, Maine City and Town Clerks Assn., People's United Methodist Church and Union Knitting Club.
She was a former correspondent for the Portland Press Herald. Marcia was one of the founders of the Union Fire Department Women's Auxiliary and was its secretary for a while.
Marcia was elected to a two-year term as a selectwoman of Union. She was a member of the Union Comprehensive Plan Committee, and the William Pullen Scholarship Committee; and a director and secretary of the B. M. Clark Foundation. Marcia also served on the state's Election Law Board.
Marcia so enjoyed working in her gardens and she planted many trees on her property. You could find her on her riding mower most good days. She also loved to knit and supplied everyone with mittens each year.
For many years, Marcia and her companion, R. Bliss Fuller, traveled all over the country and Canada in their fifth wheel and spent winters in Venice, Fla.
Marcia was predeceased by her parents; her companion, Bliss Fuller; her sister, Eleanor A. Buxton; her brother, Wendall A. Willey; and former husband, Peter Soule.
She is survived by her children, Katherine Ames and her husband, Donald, of Warren, and Kevin Peter Soule and his wife, Deborah, of Union; her grandchildren: Justin Ames, Kristen Ames, Samantha Soule and Ryan Soule; her brother, Everett Willey, of Windham; her sister, Suzanne Clark, of Meriden, Conn.; along with many cousins, nieces and nephews in Maine, Connecticut, Texas and California.
Marcia will be extremely missed by so many people. She loved a good party, and always had a laugh in her heart, a smile on her face.
Per Marcia's wishes, there will be no visiting hours or funeral. She will be cremated, and burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
