Maine Water announces employee promotions

Rockport — Maine Water Company has announced employee promotions and changes in responsibilities related to its merger with the Biddeford & Saco Water Company earlier this year, and as a result of its accelerated infrastructure replacement program throughout the state.

Maine Water serves 32,000 customers, or about 85,000 people throughout 21 Maine communities following the merger.

In order to provide consistently excellent service to all customers, Pamela J. Blackman has been named customer service manager for the expanded company. Blackman has been with Maine Water since 1995 and has been the customer service manager for the other Maine systems prior to the Biddeford & Saco merger.

The responsibilities of Richard Knowlton, vice president of Maine Water, have been expanded to include oversight of operations at the former Biddeford & Saco Water Company. Knowlton has been with Maine Water for more than 20 years and has had responsibility for the company’s operations in all divisions for this entire time, and now adds the Biddeford and Saco water system to his duties. He is already involved in planning for the future of the Biddeford & Saco water treatment plant since portions are more than 100 years old.

And, the responsibilities of Steve Cox, former engineer of Maine Water since joining the company in 2001, with a title now of director of Engineering and Technical Services, have been expanded. In addition to providing engineering services and GIS oversight, Cox now will lead two project coordinator positions that run the infrastructure replacement program throughout the state. Cox also now has management responsibility of the company’s certified water laboratory.

“Pam, Rick and Steve have demonstrated their passion and commitment for ensuring that the families and communities served by Maine Water have a reliable supply of high quality water, experience world-class customer service, and benefit from efficient operations. And, with our 2014 capital budget of over $7 million throughout the state, I know this is the right team to prudently manage the coordination of this work, and its impact on operations, our customers, and our communities,” stated Judy Wallingford, president of Maine Water, in a news release. She noted the changes become effective immediately.

Maine Water recently announced plans to consolidate all corporate functions, including customer service, in the Biddeford area by the end of 2014, since the Biddeford-Saco area has the greatest concentration of Maine Water customers. Blackman, Knowlton and Cox will be working primarily from the Biddeford area office.
