Maine Families visits Aldermere Farm
On Thursday, July 17th, children and parents from the Maine Families home visiting program of Knox, Lincoln and Sagadahoc counties were guests at Aldermere Farm in Rockport. Families had a tour of the farm with Herd Manager Heidi Baker, got to see 4-H students in action with livestock and enjoyed a "hands on" experience with calves and lambs. After the tour, everyone gathered for a healthy snack while listening to Baker read the book "Moonbeam Cow" written by Sharma Krauskopf.
Baker, who has been with Aldermere since 2006, shared with families how important it is for kids to learn where their food comes from and what sustainable agriculture means. She told parents, "Your kids can begin learning and volunteering at the farm when they are a little older, and they will become the next generation of 4-H."
