Maine author kicks off Waldoboro library 2014 programs
Waldoboro — Friends of the Waldoboro Public Library invite the public to their first program of the new year Saturday, Jan. 18, at 1 p.m. at the library, 958 Main St./Route 220. Bangor author Sarah Smiley will share an inviting idea — issue invitations to a variety of guests to come for dinner and fill the empty space at the family table left by a military husband and father deployed to Africa for a year.
When Smiley's husband departed, she was left alone to take care of their three sons, ages 4 to 12. To fill the void at the table and deal with the loneliness and tension felt by her and the boys, Smiley decided to invite people from the community and the state to come for dinner. In her book, "Dinner With The Smileys," one will learn who came and how they interacted with the family. "Dinner With The Smileys" isn't just about dinner, or the military — it is a love story about marriage, motherhood and the importance of community.
Copies of Smiley's book will be available for purchase, cash or checks only. This is a free program open to the public. For more information, call 832-4484 or visit waldoborolibrary.org.
