Lois Hoch, Change in location for memorial service
Waldoboro — Lois Ellen Hoch, 78, died at her home after a brief illness. Born in Boston to the late Stuart F. and Alice M. Coburn, Lois with her two brothers and two sisters grew up enjoying the beauty of Hampton Ponds, Mass. The family moved to Maine in 1949, where she met her beloved husband of 60 years, Elmer R. “Bud” Hoch Jr. Lois graduated from Waldoboro High School, class of 1951.
Lois was a devoted wife and mother. Together Lois and Bud raised four daughters who have become educated, independent women. Dad always said, “I have four great daughters, because they have a great mother.” Lois loved nature, watching birds at her feeders and visiting her yard on what was fondly referred to as the “garden tour.” She enjoyed researching family genealogy, reading historical fiction, and volunteer work at the Old German Church. She lived her last days with grace and never lost her sense of humor, while being surrounded and cared for by her loving family.
Lois was predeceased by her brother, Calvin C. Coburn of Deep River, Conn., and Sebago. She leaves behind her husband, Bud, and four daughters, Angela G. Hoch of Waldoboro, Carolyn Hoch-Olsen of Farmingdale, Diane M. Hoch of Augusta, and Judith E. Hoch of Anchorage, Alaska. She will be missed by her grandchildren, Adam B. Simmons and wife, Jill, of Cushing, E. Ray Martin of Waldoboro, Tyler W. Olsen of Farmingdale, Alex E. Martin of Columbia, S.C., Melanie F. Simmons of Higganum, Conn., and Britta G. Olsen of Madison, N.J. She also leaves behind her brother, Robert W. Coburn of Daytona Beach, Fla.; sisters, Fern M. Skellings of Waldoboro and Joan C. Bruso and husband, Richard, of Chicopee, Mass.; as well as sisters-in-law, Helen Martin of Waldoboro and Marilyn Coburn of Sebago; three great-grandchildren and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and extended family members.
The memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, July 7 at the Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St. in Waldoboro. The Rev. Ken Dale will officiate.
