Local film on Kickstarter
Thomaston — Local filmmaker Rick Winslow is in the process of making “The Girl with the Red Purse,” a film about a death on Vinalhaven three decades ago, and has launched a Kickstarter Campaign for the next phase.
Filming began earlier this year on the project, using local talent and locations. On Sept. 22, the 30th anniversary of the discovery of the body of a girl on an island beach, Winslow and his cast met to discuss filming the scene. Some 10 scenes are done and the production is ramping up to complete the film.
“Some scenes will be done inside during the winter months, but all post-production should be done in the spring and a release next summer,” said Winslow, adding that a Strand premiere is in the works.
The Kickstarter campaign is focused on getting the film finished, looking for $5,000 to be used on props, wardrobe and other production costs. More locals have been added to the cast in recent weeks; the movie is partly narrated and partly acted. The project’s Facebook page has a good following, Winslow said.
