Local children’s author visits Carver
Searsport — Carver Memorial Library, 12 Union St., will welcome children’s author Lucinda Hathaway Saturday, Sept. 14, at 10:30 a.m. This free event is suitable for children age 6 to 12 and their families.
Hathaway is the author of “Takashi’s Voyage” and “'Round the World: Takashi Sails Home,” two popular chapter books for children age 8 to 12. The Takashi stories follow the adventures of a young Japanese boy as he travels the seas at the turn of the 20th century. The author is a part-time resident of Camden who presents art and writing workshops for schoolchildren in Maine and beyond.
“Writing these two books has sailed me around the world with Takashi and my word processor. Sailing around the world has always been one of my dreams. Who knew it would turn out like this,” she said.
Attendees will learn about Takashi’s journeys and how to fold origami paper cranes. Children will be given instructions and additional paper to take home. For more information, contact the library at 548-2303 or visit carver.lib.me.us.
