Local authors place at book festival
Boston — Thirteen Maine Authors Publishing authors received awards in the 2012 New England Book Festival competition, including several from the Midcoast. An awards ceremony will be held Saturday, Jan. 19 at the Omni Parker House Hotel, followed by a seminar and book exposition. The event is free and open to the public.
Runner-up in the Children’s Books category is “Island Friends” by Jeff Bowman and Jennifer York, a husband-and-wife writing team from Camden, illustrated by Dawna Gardner. Receiving Honorable Mentions are “Two Men Ten Suns” by Jeff Foltz of Camden (General Fiction); “Journey Beyond God” by Peter Tufts Richardson of Rockland (Spiritual); “Beowulf of Maine by Kathleen Fox” of St. George (Photography/Art); and “The Transformation of a Doubting Thomas” by Thomas B. Dowd III of Camden (Business).
Other Honorable Mentions from the Rockland-based Maine Authors Publishing are “Matinicus: An Island Mystery” by Darcy Scott and “The Summer of the Disco King” by Jane Harvey Meade (General Fiction); “The Box of Daughter: Healing the Authentic Self” by Katherine Mayfield (Biography/Autobiography); “Heart Hound Stories: Living with the Big Dogs” by Cheryl Anne Lampshire and “Nets Through Time” by Jacqueline Davidson (General Nonfiction); “Glimpses” by Jane Harvey Meade (Spiritual); “Reaching for Quiet” by Roland Labrie (Poetry); and “Tapestry: Strands of Yellow and Blue” by Cady Elizabeth Arnold (Young Adult).
