Little League baseball 9-10s, 10-11s ready for official action
While the District 2 Little League 11- and 12-year-old baseball all-star tournament is nearing its conclusion, the 9-10 and 10-11 baseball events are about to begin in earnest.
Up to now, 9-10 and 10-11 teams have played exhibitions, or scrimmages, but soon will start playing for real.
The photos below are from recent 9-10 and 10-11 games.
This year's tournaments will have a different look and feel than in the recent past. Gone are the teams from Rockland, Camden-Rockport and Waldoboro and in their places stand teams from Oceanside (Rockland, Thomaton, St. George), Five Towns (Camden, Rockport, Hope, Appleton, Lincolnville) and Medomak Valley (Waldoboro, Union, Washington, Warren, Friendship).
All three area Little Leagues have gone through name changes the past 18 months.
Teams from Waldo County and Lincoln County also will participate in the various tournaments, though not all five leagues have representatives in all tournaments.
All District 2 tournaments are double-elimination.
The 10-11 tournament started with exhibition games June 25, while the first game of the elimination tournament will be Saturday, July 12. All games will be played at E. Allen Gordon Field in Rockland. Participating squads include Medomak Valley, Waldo County and Oceanside.
The 9-10 tournament started with exhibition games June 28, while the first game of the elimination tournament will be Tuesday, July 8. All games will be played at E. Allen Gordon Field in Rockland. Participating squads include Oceanside, Five Towns, Lincoln County and Waldo County.
