Lions, Windjammers, Mariners net May 6 court wins

The Midcoast high school boys and girls tennis seasons are running in full force with many teams in action on Tuesday, May 6.

Among Tuesday's winners were the Belfast and Camden Hills boys and girls, along with Oceanside girls.

The following is a recap of reported results:

Boys tennis

Belfast 3, Medomak Valley 2

At Belfast May 6, the Lions got a forfeit win at second doubles, which tipped the scales in the hosts' favor in an otherwise even match played in pro sets against the Waldoboro-based Panthers.

The individual results, with Belfast players listed first, were: In singles, David Flood beat Ezra Hinkley, 8-5; Logan Mitchell lost to Richard Kinney, 5-8; and Asa Lewis lost to Aaron Smeltzer, 7-9.

In doubles, Peter Brunette and Tanner Luther beat Cyril Miller and Greg Wadsworth; and Belfast won by forfeit over Medomak Valley at second doubles.

In the Maine Principals' Association Heal Point Standings for Eastern Class B, Belfast (1-3, 0.8333 points) is 15th, while Medomak Valley (0-5, no points) is 16th. Camden Hills (4-1, 19.4444 points) is first in the 17-team region. The top 12 teams qualify for the playoffs.

Camden Hills 4, Maranacook 1

On the indoor courts at the Midcoast Recreation Center in Rockport May 6, the Windjammers netted their fourth win with a victory over the Black Bears of Readfield in a pro-set match.

The individual results, with Camden Hills players listed first, were: In singles, Austin Pohlman beat Timmy Lanphear, 8-1; Matt Morse lost to Alec Daigle, 4-8; and Josiah Krul beat Zack Galati, 8-1.

In doubles, Colby Arau and Alex Forcillo beat Nick Galati and Austin Vining, 8-0; and Nick Tassoni and Eric Blohm beat Andrew White and Steven White, 8-0.

In the Maine Principals' Association Heal Point Standings for Eastern Class B, Camden Hills (4-1, 19.4444 points) is first in the 17-team region. The top 12 teams qualify for the playoffs.

Girls tennis

Camden Hills 4, Maranacook 1

At Readfield May 6, the Windjammers continued to sail through 2014 with a win over the Black Bears.

The individual results, with Camden Hills players listed first, were: In singles, Abby Blakeley beat Lauren Lang, 6-0, 6-0; Carrie Helmholz beat Julia Varney, 6-7(7-4), 6-0, 7-5; and Katie Vannorsdall beat Shelby Linscott, 6-1, 6-0.

In doubles, Emily Haining and Sophia Landry lost to Olivia Swimm and Victoria Nolette, 4-6, 2-6; and Serene Landry and Eliza Carter beat Lydia Rice and Abby Westbeim, 6-2, 6-0.

Belfast 4, Medomak Valley 1

At Waldoboro May 6, the Lions had no trouble with the host Panthers and picked up their second win of the season.

The individual results, with Belfast players listed first, were: In singles, Mariah Hurd beat Haley Mank, 1-6, 1-6; Ashley Keene lost to Maggie Ryan 4-6, 6-4, 2-6; and Belfast won by forfeit over Medomak Valley at third singles.

In doubles, Mackenzie Moore and Lacey Durkee lost to Morgan Black and Stacy Wadsworth, 0-6, 1-6; and Madison Pickering and Lucie Bonneville beat Emily Wotton and Nashelle Monroy, 6-0, 6-0.

In the Maine Principals' Association Heal Point Standings for Eastern Class B, Belfast (1-3, 2.4306 points) is 14th, while Medomak Valley (0-3, no points) is 17th. Camden Hills (4-0, 17.0139 points) is first in the 17-team region. The top 12 teams qualify for the playoffs. Tuesday's Lion/Panther match result has yet to be reported to the Heal Point site.

Oceanside 3, Lincoln Academy 2

At Newcastle May 6, the Mariners came out on top in a close match against the Eagles.

The individual results, with Oceanside players listed first, were: In singles, Lily Butler lost to Nettie Hoagland, 0-6, 1-6; Alayna Joyce beat Eloise Kelly, 6-4, 6-3; and Meaghan McGonagle beat Ploina Scimone, 2-6, 6-3, 6-4.

In doubles, Mary Allen and Clara Feltus beat Jackie Hussenflug and Tessa Walsh, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2; and Becca Boggs and Zoe Billington lost to Kate Westhaver and Hana Hirano, 2-6, 2-6.
