Lincolnville Inland Harbormaster report

Feb 20, 2013

Lincolnville — Inland Lake Warden Justin Twitchell reported increased activity on the lakes and ponds during the weekend of Feb. 16 and 17, noting on Saturday many people were out enjoying the ice on Norton Pond and Megunticook Lake.

Twitchell observed some local ice fisherman having some luck with a few nice brown and rainbow trout and noted some snowmobilers on the ice as well.  During the day on Saturday and Sunday, Twitchell conducted property checks around the lake and islands to check on cottages for possible storm damage. Twitchell made arrangements for the cottages with a large accumulation of snow on their roofs to be cleared and secured one premise which had encountered a blown out window due to high winds and snow.

Twitchell described ice conditions as spotty.  There is still plenty of ice (with the exception of around the small islands near Fang Island) but there is a great deal of slush in some areas. This makes for poor walking/skiing or snowmobiling in these areas. Twitchell advises anyone operating a snowmobile to please be safe and wear a helmet.
