Cleanup thanks

On behalf of the St. George Conservation Commission I would like to thank the more than 50 citizens who picked up the winter’s accumulation of trash along our major, and some not so major, roads Saturday, May 3. Fortified by the delicious pancake breakfast supplied by the St. George Days Committee and equipped with trash bags, buckets, grabbers and rakes they scoured the ditched for that last piece of trash. Then they transported it to the Transfer Station where members of the Solid Waste and Recycling Committee were on hand to see that it all went into the correct receptacle. Special thanks to out to members of that committee, every member of which, before reporting to duty at the Transfer Station, cleaned a section of the roadway. Members of the Conservation Commission also cleaned up roadside and then made repeated trips around town to pick up large items and trash bags that were too heavy.

Once again this year, the Monhegan Boat Line donated tickets as an incentive to the cleaners. The slots filled up quickly, proving that this gesture is much appreciated.

Thanks also go out to the men of the Bolduc Correctional Center who assisted with the cleanup on Friday as a public service.

Our roadsides look wonderful!

Early prediction

I would like to make the following prediction. I know it's a little early to mention the Election 2016, but I like to say that if Condoleezza Rice was the Republican candidate running against Hillary Clinton, I think that this would be quite a race for the White House and the question would of close attention by voters.

I will not be making any points with the voters making the above statement, but we would have two smart candidates in a race that we have not seen before in the history of America.
