High school girls basketball

Learning season ahead for young Hawks

By Staff | Dec 11, 2013

North Haven — The following is a synopsis of the 2013-14 North Haven Community School girls basketball team:

Coach/years coached current team: Elizabeth Lovell and Cecily Pingree, first year (co-coaches).

Last year's record/playoff information: 4-12, 13th in Western Class D. The Hawks did not qualify for the playoffs.

Roster: Juniors Kennedy Cooper (5-foot 8-inch forward), Natalie Carrier (5-5 guard) and Alyssa Caroff (5-4 guard); sophomores Maddie Hallowell (5-8 guard), Jasmine Brown (5-7 forward), Adrianna Ames (5-5 guard), Samantha Sparhawk (5-7 forward) and Gina MacDonald (5-8 forward); and freshman Ashlynn Ames (5-5 guard).

Known graduation losses: None.

Significant impact players: Hallowell.

Team strength: Potential.

Team goal: To get better each game.

Top league opponents: Forest Hills of Jackman and Rangeley.

Outlook: This year likely will be filled with growing pains for the young Hawks and their coaches, both coaching at the varsity level for the first time. Hallowell is a Jill-of-all-trades and will get her share of scoring opportunities for North Haven. The coaches are former North Haven hoop standouts, with Lovell a 1,000-point career scorer and Pingree close to that milestone. Both want to give back to their community and alma mater by coaching.
