Learn some new moves
Rockland — Rockland Public Library, 80 Union St., will host a special vacation day dance class for all ages Friday, March 14, at 10:30 a.m. in the Community Room. Instructor Vanessa Knause from VK Studio Red promises to teach all comers some new moves.
Knause has been instructing dance, artist residencies, workshops and summer intensives for more than 15 years, reaching out to thousands of people ranging in age from 18 months to pre-professional. As a resident dance artist for Bradford County Regional Arts Council and the Pennsylvania Arts Council, she offered creative movement residencies to pre-school children linking the arts to academic curriculum. She was selected to work with an intensive multiple year program, Learning Communication Skills through the Arts, which provides high quality arts experience to teachers, staff and children in rural settings. This program was selected by the arts council England as an international model of creative arts practice in early years; was awarded the Pennsylvania Governor’s Award for Outstanding Leadership and Service in Arts Education; and received the first-ever Americans for the Arts in Education Award.
Knause also has received the Most Artistic Choreography award at a regional dance competition for her cutting edge contemporary choreography. She has trained dancers who were accepted to the Governor’s School of Arts, titled Miss Dance, at a dance competition; attended Koresh Summer Dance; and was accepted into higher learning for dance at West Chester University, N.Y.
