Latin Dance Night at the MRC
Rockport — The days are getting short and the temperatures are dropping, but a Latin dance party Saturday night, Dec. 1 at the Mid-Coast Recreation Center on Route 90 will heat things up get the Midcoast moving to a warmer-place energy.
Organized by Nohora Estes, longtime local teacher originally from Colombia, and Heuris Matos, originally from the Dominican Republic, the Latin Dance Night will run from 7 to 11 p.m., fueled by recorded tunes. From 7:30 to 8:30 p.m., Matos, Estes and Malia Dell will offer a lesson in salsa, merengue and bachata. For the rest of the night, everyone is invited to find their Latin groove during what is hoped to be the first of such dance party nights.
Matos said the idea for the Latin Dance Night was born of frustration — he really loves to dance and while there are classes locally to learn Latin dance, he could find no place to just go and do it. The dance party will use music from his collection, tunes “from the D.R.” and other countries.
“I’m interested in sharing my culture and the dance I love to do, and that my people love to do,” he said.
Admission will be $10 at the door (cash only). For more information, visit the Hot Pink Flannel page on Facebook.
