Latin American, German cooking classes at Penobscot School
Rockland — Several offerings for those interested in German are coming to Penobscot School. In addition there will be adult and children cooking classes in November.
Deutches Kocken, a cooking immersion focusing on a fall menu, will be held Saturday, Oct. 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. 10-2 p.m. This is a hands-on experience with conversation in German only as native, Renate Tower, who will guide participants through a full autumn menu.
Deutschlandreise (German Travel), a five-week course, is offered Thursdays, beginning Monday, Oct. 28, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. and provides an opportunity to visit several sites in Germany ranging from the North Sea to the Alps. Films are followed by discussion.
Weihnachtsgebaeck (Christmas Baking) is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 16, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This is an annual delight featuring recipes for Lebkuchen, Marzipan and several other festive recipes. Renate outdoes herself at this family favorite to which adults and children accompanied by parents are invited.
The tastes of South America are as varied as its landscape. From Mexico to the tip of Chile, South America boasts some wonderful recipes including seviche, tortillas, plantains and more. Come prepare and enjoy an authentic meal with native Columbian, Nohora Estes. Estes has been teaching at Penobscot School for more than two decades and established the Spanish program at Riley School. She enjoys cooking, gardening and dancing salsa.
Adults are welcome Saturday, Nov. 2, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Children will cook and have a fiesta Saturday, Nov. 16, from 5 to 7 p.m.
