Know the correct spacing that each plant requires,

One of the most common mistakes I see when I look at home landscaping is the use of too many plants that are planted too close. People, including many landscapers, actually spend more than they should because they want a landscape to look "complete" when finished but they don't allow for lateral growth of the plants. This results in plants growing together in unsightly and unmanageable masses rather than correctly spaced  to look their best.

If you want an "instant" landscape, plant more mature sized plants spaced correctly.. Otherwise, be patient and allow time and space for smaller plants to grow.
