Land Trust hosts photography workshop
Rockland — Georges River Land Trust is offering a two-part photography workshop with Michael Sacca, its current artist in residence. Digital camera users will learn simple ways to dramatically improve their pictures. The class is limited to 12 people and the registration fee is $25; call 594-5166 to reserve a spot.
Part One will be a practical evening session Thursday, Oct. 17, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. with a combination hands-on and PowerPoint presentation. Then, on Saturday, Oct. 19, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., participants will take their skills to the field on a trip to a Land Trust preserve in Union (rain date is Sunday, Oct. 20).
Whether chasing butterflies or grandchildren with the camera, this workshop will help attendees understand how to get sharper, better-exposed images that will dazzle and amaze. It is designed for participants who want more creative control over their digital cameras; it is assumed participants have a basic familiarity with point-and-shoot digital cameras.
The two broad subjects to be covered can be divided into technical and aesthetic areas. Students will gain greater control in areas such as exposure, movie and scene settings, manual overrides and flash settings; learn how and when to use settings for sharper, properly exposed images; become familiar with file settings such as size, type (jpg and RAW); get insights into better composition, developing story ideas and a personal vision; improve image quality (contrast, color, sharpness) once the images are on a computer; and improve archive and file management techniques.
Georges River Land Trust is committed to encouraging citizens to discover the river and care for the land throughout the 14 communities in the St. George River watershed.
