Korn speaks at Skidompha

Mar 21, 2014

Damariscotta — Peter Korn, founder and Executive Director of the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship in Rockport, will discuss his new book “Why We Make Things and Why It Matters: The Education of a Craftsman” Thursday, April 3, from 1 to 3 p.m. Maine Coast Book Shop will host the event in the Porter Hall of the downtown Skidompha Library.

Drawing on four decades of experience handcrafting fine furniture, Korn’s previous books have primarily focused on teaching woodworking to neophytes. In this inspired departure from such how-to guides, including the best-selling “Woodworking Basics: Mastering the Essentials of Craftsmanship,” Korn explores the fundamental reasons why he and other artistically inclined hobbyists and professionals passionately devote themselves to their craft, often for little recognition or monetary gain.

Books will be available for sale, and Korn will gladly sign them following the talk. The event is free and open to the public.
