Kolkin speaks on Bhutan images
Rockland — On Wednesday, July 11 from 5 to 6 p.m., Carver Hill Gallery, 338 Main St., will host an artist's talk with gallery photographer Jon Kolkin about his latest series, Seeking Wisdom … Impressions from Bhutan and Buddhist Philosophy.
A six-week trip to Bhutan, the only Buddhist kingdom in the world, inspired this body of work. The series is intended to stimulate a dialogue about the complex interplay of factors that influence our thought process while drawing attention to the importance of striving to achieve a higher level of intellect, i.e. wisdom.
Kolkin's work tends to focus on social topics that invite dialogue, understanding and mutual respect between people with different points of view. He is a frequent lecturer on topics such as maintaining relevance within our lives; and finding a healthy balance between our professional and personal lives.
The gallery has chosen a few images from the Seeking Wisdom series for Kolkin to discuss. Guests are welcome to stay for a Q&A session after. Light refreshments will be served. For more information, call 594-7745.
