Knox Democrats to address legislative reapportionment
Rockland — The Knox County Democratic Committee will open its February meeting with a seminar on the reapportionment of Maine legislative districts, which is necessary to reflect the 2010 U.S. Census results. Everyone is welcome to attend and to participate.
The meeting will be Tuesday, Feb. 12 at the Stella Maris House, 148 Broadway, at the intersection with Route 1.
As is the custom, there will be a potluck and open discussion starting at 6 p.m. for those who wish to bring a salad, beverage or main dish to share. A microwave is available. This is a good time for people to talk politics, vent, share concerns etc.
The program will begin at 7 p.m. with a presentation and discussion of reapportionment of statehouse election districts. The reapportionment coincides with the U. S. Census interval and is separate from the congressional redistricting that took place in 2011. It is unlikely that Knox County legislative and County Commission Districts will remain unchanged. Discussion will focus on the process for creating districts that comprise equal numbers of voters with balanced voting preferences.
The business meeting will follow under the leadership of incoming Chairman Adrian Humphreys of Hope. Recruitment of members of standing committees will continue with particular focus on the fundraising committee. Ideas and volunteers will be welcome.
The Stella Maris House is accessible to the handicapped and has on-site parking. For more information, please contact Chairman Adrian Humphreys at 763-4691 or at email@example.com or visit knoxmainedemocrats.org.
