Rockland — Tess Kilgour announced Dec. 15 she intends to step down as the chairperson of the Regional School Unit 13 board.

In an email, she wrote:

"I am writing to notify you of my intentions to resign as Chairwoman of RSU 13 effective March 5, 2014. This will mean that there will need to be an action item on the March agenda to elect a new chairperson who will hold office until the reorganizational meeting at the July board meeting.

"The relentless time demand of the job of chairperson shows no sign of letting up in the immediate future. I have a 'big life' to quote a friend and I have missed too many important events due to my obligation to the job as board chair.

"Also I have a philosophical difference with the direction that some of the board members believe this district should move towards. It is my intent to remain as a board member and continue to represent the students and the taxpayers, who elected me, to the best of my ability."
