Kigel says farewell to fall
Brunswick — Jean Kigel’s timely exhibit “Sayonara” will be featured during the month of November at Summer Island Studio, 149 Maine St. The Waldoboro artist’s fall-into-winter theme includes recent Asian brush paintings and watercolors, painted with a palette of vermillion and violet.
The show’s title piece “Sayonara II,” like several in the show, offers a farewell to fall in nature. As a color-segue from fall to winter, Kigel also painted a bright set of 1950s primary color bowls that symbolically usher the last warmth of autumn into the comfort of the kitchen. The remainder of this solo show consists of winter paintings in icy, blue tones. Examples of these are northern lights, a gyotaku skate and a blue lobster.
Award-winning artist Kigel lives and paints at her studio/home in Waldoboro. Her works have been widely exhibited in museum, university and private galleries; and have been reviewed in the Boston Globe and the Maine Sunday Telegram.
Gallery hours are from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays; and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sundays. For more information, call 373-1810.
