‘Keag River Pottery at the Grange

Tony Oliveri's most recent work features bowls, serving platters and pitchers glazed with schools of fish swimming through spirals of light.

Martinsville — Tony and Nancy Oliveri will bring 'Keag River Pottery back to the Midcoast for their fifth annual show and sale Saturday and Sunday, July 28 and 29 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Ocean View Grange on Route 131, near Port Clyde.

From 1972 through 2007, the couple ran 'Keag Pottery Shop in South Thomaston, selling Tony’s handmade bowls, mugs and one-of-a-kind-art pieces out of their barn showroom.   That he is self-taught and does not mass-produce his pottery has informed his work over the decades and is reflected in the Islands and other distinct glazes, as well as his Nancy vases, wheel-thrown but with hand-formed, segmented clay pieces patterned at the top as floral arrangements.

Joining the couple this year are potter Patricia Hubbard of Thomaston and painter Jane Derbyshire of Tenants Harbor. Hubbard makes hand-built one-of-a-kind pieces of earthenware, using slabs and coils. Her focus for this show is In the Garden plant pots, garden water dishes, vases and bowls, while Derbyshire will show work painted last winter in a series called Blue Nights.
