As a lifelong resident working in the Midcoast, Karen Mehorter knows what it takes to make a successful business.

Mehorter began honing her skills in advertising and marketing after attending the University of Southern Maine and studying business administration. She started off working for the Camden Herald in the 90's when it was still an independent newspaper and became the Waldo County Advertising Representative.

“I was always a major multi-tasker because one minute I would be doing advertising sales in Waldo County, then I might assist with sales in Knox County,  and the next I might be helping in the circulation department,” Mehorter said.

Mehorter said she is happy to be working in print and online advertising in the present day, this time for Courier Publications & VillageSoup, since it gives her the opportunity to help businesses target their market in and outside of the midcoast region.  "As the Rockland Sales Rep I can assist you with print options in all 3 of our Courier Newspapers PLUS offer you a far larger audience with our online VillageSoup Bizmembership Marketing Program which I specialize in and/or other online advertising options. "

Besides her experience with newspaper advertising, Mehorter also worked as an Ad Rep for Dirigo Custom Publishing and sold advertising for them for the Belfast Area Chamber of Commerce's annual Guide Book in 2008.

Prior to this she worked almost 10 years in Retail Management working for a local Maine company Monroe Salt Works. “Over 10 years I became a regional manager and oversaw management of 3 stores and staff along the midcoast.  This was a great experience as I was able to see what was going on in several midcoast communities,” she said. “I was responsible for managing an advertising budget, and worked with several forms of media buying advertising with newspapers, radio, magazine and television stations. This experience is an asset I bring to the table and can offer area businesses as a Print & Online Sales Rep.  I have worked in their shoes marketing a business along the midcoast and I can use that experience as I assist them market their business.  This experience along with also having a family owned real estate business that I have assisted with here and there with over the last 25 years --gives me a bit of an edge over other Ad Reps. I really enjoy helping people sell a product or brand."

As an advertising representative, Mehorter acknowledged it can be challenging to make advertising effective, but it’s a challenge she is more than willing to meet.  You really must have an on-line presence and marketing campaign and combining both print and online can be effective.  "Our most popular option these days is our online VillageSoup Bizmemberhship campaign ~ it offers a package of marketing tools!"

When she isn’t pounding the pavement in an effort to sell advertising, Mehorter said her next greatest passion is being on the water.  “I have a 31 ft Sea Ray bay boat and I love being out on the waters of Penobscot Bay."
