Juhannus & pot-luck...
SOUTH THOMASTON — This Saturday at 12-Noon, both Finnish-American groups will be meeting at Jura Hall to celebrate "Juhannus" with a delicious "pot-luck" meal, followed by an afternoon of fun and fellowship. This will include door prizes, a 50-50 raffle, music, and a guest speaker.
These quarterly get-togethers are mutually sponsored by the "Finnish Heritage House" and the loical "Finn-Am Society", and are held on Rt. 131 (St. George Road) at Jura Hall. This is located in the fellowship hall of the Finnish Congregational Church, which is next door to the FHH.
Juhannus is the Finnish name for Midsummer, which has been celebrated for many hundreds of years by all Scandinaveans and numerous Europeans. Bonfires are especially popular in Finland, where many take their traditional midsummer vacations at lakeside locations.
Remember, this Saturday, June 16th @ Noon. All are welcome! "Tervetuloa".
