Portsmouth, N.H. — Judith Ellen (Stubbert) Tierno, of Portsmouth, N.H. died Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012 at Hyder Family Hospice House in Dover after a lengthy illness.

She was born in Waterville, Oct. 30, 1938, a daughter of the late Charles Fredrick and Mary Tufts (McKenney) Stubbert.

Judy graduated from Waterville High School and had lived in Manchester, N.H. and Portland and Kennebunkport, before making her home in Portsmouth. She was a longtime summer resident of Port Clyde.

She enjoyed traveling and wintering in Florida. She was a volunteer with the Channel 11 Auction for many years, contributed to the local battered women’s shelter, served on the committee that sponsored the Wyland Marine Art Exhibit East Coast Tour, along with many other charities she was passionate about.

Her partner James H. Riley predeceased her in 1999. Family members include her daughter, Laurie A. Tierno of North Providence, R.I., her son, Scott A. Tierno and his wife Annmaria of Candia, N.H. and her two “grandiegirls” Emma and Mary; her brother, Charles F. Stubbert of Waterville and her sister, Kerry-Ann Heffelfinger of Strafford, N.H., many nieces and nephews, lifelong friends Gail Bradbard of South Berwick and Lainey Nollet of Newcastle, N.H.

Visiting hours will be Tuesday, Oct. 30 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton, N.H. A time of remembrance will immediately follow at 5:30 p.m. in the funeral home. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
